The industry I am currently employed in is the industrial sales and supply chain management industry. I currently work for the Fastenal company who sell industrial supplies to a wide variety of companies and on a higher level we go onsite into a customer's manufacturing facility to manage their supply chain for them. I am currently managing one of our largest customer's supply chains on the east coast, Stryker Orthopedics. As the general manager for the supply chain for the manufacturing of prosthetics going into the human body we have a wide variety of challenges we face every day.$$

A great example of a project I was recently involved in is due to the supply chain constraints on the unique tools our customer uses there are sometime longer lead times on these items. Our customer had nearly run out of a tool, so we had to act before it caused a major issue such as a manufacturing shut down. We worked with the engineers at the facility to better understand the specifications of the prosthetic as well as the requirements to keep the prosthetic safe to be within a human body. These requirement can take a list of thousands of tool options down to a small handful, specifically we were able to only find $2$ that fit the requirements.$$

We brought them in for testing and once the testing was complete we actually found that the new tool we brought in out performed the current tool in place showing a $$20,000$ per year savings to our customer. When working on a new project even if it is due to a tough situation you should also gather the data to understand if the new product is actually better, this is a great example of that. In the past we would just rush to get a sample in and then quickly switch back to the other tool when it is available, however this is causing us to collect better data to see where we might be able to save our customer more money.
