When we take into consideration the right to free education, the right to free medical services, and hunting and fishing rights, governments in Canada have been generous to the treaty Indians. These rights have never been restricted. After all, the so-called Indian treaties are not really treaties in the legally accepted sense. No other nation provides special rights for ethnic groups. By paying annuities to treaty Indians, the federal government satisfies all its obligations towards Indians. How ludicrous that Indians should claim that they are entitled to mineral and other resources on their land. These resources belong to all Canadians and should therefore be exploited for the benefit of all, not just treaty Indians.
