Step 3: Focus of the Evaluation

How are the social needs defined? What are the political, trends, biases, opinions, and other factors affecting the focus? How do you know that the need really exists, that an evaluation is even needed?

Step 4: Gather credible evidence/data.

Develop needs assessment questions. If the researchers developed their own instrument, what were the assessment questions asked, what was the process/influences in the selection/development of the questions, etc.? How are those questions linked to the purposes of the needs assessment example? If the researchers selected an existing instrument, discuss what each instrument measures and how that relates to the purposes of the needs assessment example.

Step 4a: Establish target parameters. What were the target parameters for participation in the study (such as demographics, group membership, specific conditions, etc.)? Support your claim with evidence from the article. Explain how those target parameters are linked with the type of need identified. In other words, why were these the inclusion criteria for participation?

Step 4b: Select direct and indirect interventions. Once target interventions are defined, then it must be identified by either direct or indirect interventions. What intervention was chosen by the authors of the article for your critique and was it direct or indirect? Be specific and support your claim with evidence from the article.

Step 4c: Selecting data sources and sampling. Identify what sources were used to collect data. How were participants recruited for the study? Identify the sampling strategy used and discuss the pros and cons of that specific method. Explain how the sample is or is not representative of the population. Step 4d: Develop data collection plans. Provide explanation of plan. Identify each method used to gather data. Did the researchers use quantitative or qualitative data or both? What type of data did the researchers collect? What data collection method was used and who collected the data? Provide specific examples to support your answer. Note: Do not discuss how the data were analyzed in this section, just how it was collected. Also, note that the word data is plural not singular when you are writing this section
