Robert, graduated with a Law degree and completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Law in 2019. He got a training contract at an international law firm in Hong Kong. He started work on 1 August 2019 as a trainee solicitor. His supervisor, Rachel, asked him to workevery single day of December-including Winter Solstice Festival and Christmas Day. He reluctantly went to work because he was worried about his training contract. Rachel never mentioned, nor arrange a break for Robert and Robert was completely exhausted by January this year. Rachel also asked Robert to work on 1 January 2020.
A few months ago, Rachel threatened Robert and asked him for sexual favours in order to maintain his training contract. Rachel would also scold and beat him up. Robert saw a psychiatrist in May and he was diagnosed with depression. He wanted to resign back in June, but he was too busy with the work and did not have time to check the Employment Ordinance.
He noticed that a clause in his training contract prohibited him from workingas a solicitor for 12 months in Hong Kong after leaving the law firm.
