Robert has been looking for an engagement ring for his girlfriend. He has spent weeks visiting different jewelry stores but has been unable to find the perfect engagement ring. One day he walked into Charms Jewelry Store and was delighted to find the perfect engagement ring. However, the problem was that the ring was too expensive. Robert asked Lilly, the salesperson at Charms, if she would agree to "put the ring aside for him" for a few days, so he could raise the money to buy the ring. Lilly offered to set the ring aside for 48 hours. In other words, the ring would not be sold to anyone else during the 48 hours, and if Robert came with all the money within the 48 hours and agreed to buy the ring Charms would sell it to him. Robert was so happy, and thanked Lilly. The next morning, Paul, another salesperson at Charms, was working. A customer came into the store, saw a ring (the one Robert is interested in) and immediately bought it. The customer paid for the ring and he left with the ring. Paul did not know about Lilly`s promise to Robert. Robert returned to Charms within 48 hours with all the money to buy the ring. As soon as Lilly saw Robert walk into the store she immediately went to him, and before he could say anything, Lilly told him that Charm`s could not sell him the ring because it had already been sold to someone else. Robert was furious. Robert believes that Charms had a legal obligation to hold the ring for him, and not to sell it to anyone else, for 48 hours. Was Charms legally required to hold the ring for Robert for 48 hours?
