Role Play- Family Support Services- Lucinda is 35-year-old Aboriginal woman. She has a 12-year-old son Tom. Lucinda is in a relationship with the child's father, his name is Adam. The family live in a rented house that has not been very well maintained. The roof leaks and the front security door will not lock. Lucinda has asked the real estate agency to fix these issues many times, but nothing has been done. Lucinda's sister and her three children are currently staying in the house due to their own issues with homelessness and family violence. The house is overcrowded. Tom is sharing a room with his three young cousins and his aunt sleeps on the couch in the living room. Tom has always enjoyed school however recently he has a new group of friends and his grades have started to decline. The school have contacted Lucinda concerned about Tom's behaviour, being rude to teachers, he has missed classes and not been handing in work. This is unusual for Tom. Lucinda thinks his new friends are a bad influence on him. Adam, Lucinda's partner works fly in fly out and is only home one week of every month. Lucinda works full time in a community health service. Tom is often left alone at home due to his parents' work. Lucinda had been worried Tom was lonely and encouraged his friendships. She does no longer thinks this was the right decision. Tom no longer talks to his parents, he is secretive about where he goes and who he is with and has stolen money. Lucinda thought Tom would like to have his aunt and cousins in the home however he constantly argues with his cousins and will often walk out of the house when this occurs. The family are usually financially stable however since having to pay for her sister and her family, Lucinda is finding it difficult to pay for all the expenses. Other members of Lucinda's family will also often ask for financial assistance. Last month Lucinda was not able to pay her rent on time and her utility bills are also overdue. She is very worried her rental agent will ask her to vacate the house. Lucinda is feeling overwhelmed and stressed. She comes to your service for assistance. You are a general case manager and family support worker at a local Family Centre.
