Problem 2 (45 points): page 83 P02_03

  1. Crosstabs: 5 points (Note: you have table using Excel's COUNTIFS function! You will need to dotable with the PIVOT TABLE function in the last problem. You will not get credit if you do not do it with COUNTIFS).

Column chart: 5 points. Remember that the crosstab is a table whereas the column chart is a graph. They are not the same thing. It is very important that the percentages for either gender add to 100%.

Do the two genders differ in their opinions? 5 points.

b.Same as part a) but know you are looking at the relationship between Age and Opinion (15 points distributed as in part a)

  1. Same as part a) but know you are looking at the relationship between recoded salary and Opinion (15 points distributed as in part a).

Problem 8 (42 points) p. 91 P02_07

There are different ways to handle this problem. You can use PivotTable in Excel but you can only calculate the mean and standard deviation or you can use Tables in Excel and by using filters you can find the three measures.

a)Gender recoding (3 points). Mean of Males (2 points), mean of females (2 points), median of males (2 points), median of females (2 points), std. dev of males (2 points) std. dev. of females (2 points).

b)Education recoding (3 points). 3 points for getting the mean, median and std. dev. of new Education level 1. 3 points for getting the mean, median and std. dev. of new Education level 2. 3 points for getting the mean, median and std. dev. of new Education level 3.

c)Age recoding (3 points). 4 points for getting the mean, median and std. dev. of Young. 4 points for getting the mean, median and std. dev. of Middle-Aged. 4 points for getting the mean, median and std. dev. of Older.

Problem 21 (40 points): p. 103 P02_07

  1. Table of correlations (10 points)

Which one is most highly correlated with salary? (5 points)

b.Create scatterplots (10 points, 2.5 points each scatterplot). Do not forget to label the axis.

  1. Include a linear trend and equation in the scatterplot of the most highly correlated variable from part a)(10 points)

Interpret the equation, specifically what happens with Salary if the most highly correlated variable increases by 1? (5 points)

Problem 34: (46 points) p.126 P02_03

Here you need to provide three crosstabs and three column charts constructed with PIVOT TABLES and with the sum of the row percentages being equal to 100% (18 points). Interpret the results in terms of how the variables are related (5 points).

Then you need to provide another three crosstabs and three column charts constructed with PIVOT TABLES and with the sum of the column percentages being equal to 100% (18 points). Interpret the results in terms of how the variables are related (5 points).

Total points: 173
