Sandia Medical DevicesRecall the Sandia Medical Devices Real-Time GlucoseMonitoring (RTGM) system introduced in Chapter 2.As the project began, interviews with patients andphysicians about potential RTGM capabilities andinteraction modes identified several areas of concernthat will need to be incorporated into the systemrequirements and design. The relevant patient concernsinclude:Viewing and interpreting data and trends:Patientswant to be able to view more than their currentglucose level. They would like the ability to seepast glucose levels over various time periods, witha specific focus on time periods during which theirglucose was within and outside of acceptableranges. A graphical view of the data is preferred,although some patients also want to be able to seeactual numbers.Additional data:Some patients want to be able toenter text notes or voice messages to supplementglucose level data. For example, patients who see ahigh glucose alert might record voice messagesdescribing how they feel or what they had recentlyeaten. Some patients thought that sharing suchinformation with their health-care providers mightbe valuable, but others only wanted such infor-mation for themselves.Physicians expressed these concerns:They do not want to be thefirst line ofresponseto all alerts. They prefer that nurses orphysician assistants be charged with that roleand that they be notified only when frontlinepersonnel determine that an emergency situationexists.They want to be able to monitor and view pastpatient data and trends in much the same way asdescribed for patients.They want all their actions to be logged and forpatient-specific responses to be stored as part ofthe patients electronic medical record.(continued from page 88)(continued on page 90)CHAPTER 3Use Cases89 Perform the following tasks by using the informationhere as well as the system description in Chapter 2:1.
