Scenario 3: Intellectual Property

Calista worked part time as a barista at Bayview in St. Petersburg while attending the University of South Florida full time. As part of her final project for a degree in information technology, Calista designed a computer program that provided the fastest and most economical routes for delivery drivers. The program also tracked the locations of drivers. Calista called the program Fast Route & Tracker (FRT). The program was designed to be used by any type of delivery service and not just the food industry. When Bayview found out about the software, they claimed they owned the program since Calista was employed by the company when she developed the program. Calista believes she owns the rights to the invention since it was created for her school project and could be used for any type of delivery company.
