SCENARIO
ABC Corporation is an instructional design company that specializes in the development of online training curriculum for venture capitalist firms. The company is made up of the Chief Learning Officer, three full-time instructional designers, two part-time instructional designers, one graphic designer, one videographer, two programmers, and a project manager, making the total number of employees eleven. You will assume the role of project manager. The company will also outsource programming to different firms in South America and Europe as needed.
The client, Venture Capitalist Firm, has hired your company to develop 14 training modules. The aim of the project is to improve the various business functions (i.e., sales, leadership, onboarding and talent strategy, coaching, KPIs, etc.) at each of their portfolio companies. The Chief Learning Officer of ABC Corporation has tasked you to manage the completion of training modules from the initial storyboarding, production development, and finally, programming and quality control. Each module has their own deadlines for storyboarding, production, review, modifications, and programming. While each module has its own due date for being uploaded into the learning development system, the modules must all be uploaded no later than six months after the start of the project.
Each module must contain activities, videos, and outputs that the various portfolio companies owned by the venture capitalist firm can utilize in each of their businesses. Each of these outputs are either documents, improvement plans, or PowerPoints that must be approved by the managing directors of the venture capitalist firm. The target audience is the executive leadership at each of the portfolio companies. The content is received from the managing directors at the Venture Capitalist Firm, who serve as the subject matter experts.
Wysocki lists six levels for the RBS:
- Requirements
- Functions
Concentrate on the first two levels: requirements and functions. Your plan should include at least five requirements and two functions. You may use either the hierarchical format shown in your readingor an indented outline.
When creating your list, consider the different kinds of requirements that your project might have, such as:
- Project requirements:Business requirements, end-user requirements, functional and non-functional requirements, etc.
- Product requirements:Technical requirements, product features, functional requirements, etc.
- Indirect requirements:Overhead imposed by organizational or enterprise environments and standards related to security, regulations, infrastructure, industry, etc.
Project Overview Statement (POS)
The POS outlines the project as you perceive it what needs to be done, why it needs to be done, and what the value is. Your POS should include the following:
- A brief narrative description of the project (problem or opportunity)
- Who the client or user is and why they want the proposed project (i.e., an overview of benefits)
- A list of other stakeholders
- Project goals and objectives
- Project assumptions, risks, and obstacles
- Overall estimated timeframe
Chapter 6 of the Wysocki text should guide you in developing your POS. You may use the template on page 177 of Wysocki as a guide for your POS.
