SCENARIO: Dr Manaka has invited the Executive Dean of the University of London, Professor Standford Whitting to the Department of Intercultural Business Liaisons year-end function. Several international guests have also been invited, such as: the former president of South Africa, Mr Thabo Mbeki, Mr Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Public Enterprises in South Africa, HRH, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of Saudi Arabia

Professor Whitting was bewildered to see so many high-profile guests. He did not understand why these guests would be invited to a standard year-end function. He was also quite perplexed by the total cost of the event, which almost trebled in expenditure in comparison to previous years. The affair was extravagant, the food was excessively indulgent and wasteful, and the presentations were pretentious and grandiose. Although the event was well organised and progressed smoothly, overall, the event was not suited to the goal of the Department.

Professor Whitting felt that the goal of the Department and his College was to promote ethical, feasible and sustainable global business leadership. However, this function portrayed the opposite ideals. He, therefore, decided to write a formal report to the President of the University.
