Scenario

I am almost 16 years old and I live in a juvenile detention center. I am here on drug charges and I finished the program I was required to complete 2 months ago. I want to go home but my Mom will not let me. She says I cannot live with her. She will not put me in foster care, either. Because she will not do this and she will not allow me to move home, I have to stay in detention until 19th birthday.

Possible Appropriate Response to Karlie:

If you've got it, it seems that you feel hurt and angry that your Mom leaves you in a jail and does not seem to care that you want out of here.

As a counsellor and based onthe scenario above answer the following questions:

  1. Did you find this role-play difficult to perform/observe? Why or why not?
  2. What were the "counsellor's" your strengths during this role play? (name at least 6)
  3. What were the "counsellor's" weaknesses during this role play? (name no more than 3)
  4. Any other comments?
