Scenario: The Board of Directors has approved a new service in the hospital for Infusion Therapy. Infusion Therapy is a procedure and is used to administer IV fluids, IV medications, Blood and blood factors (such as platelets), immunoglobulins, etc. An Infusion may last from 30 minutes - several hours. It requires a Registered Nurse to administer. Pharmacy provides the medications, the Laboratory has the blood and blood products. Initially, until new space can be built, the Infusion Therapy services will be offered out of 2 patient rooms. Patients will sit in recliner style chairs for treatment, with curtains around them for privacy. There will be new IV infusion pumps and a new section in the EHR for documentation. CPOE protocols have not been developed yet for the Infusion Therapy department.
