Scenario

You are the assistant director for an 86 child capacity Early Childhood Center. You and your director are preparing for an accredidation check-in visit from your national accreditor. After your previous accrediation visit, you were charged with improving your performance in a few areas. This check-in visit is designed to demonstrate the progress you have made in these areas. In preparation for the check-in visit, your director has tasked you with collecting evidence and preparing documents to provide to the accreditors.

Week 5: Check-In Area Three: Safety and Wellness

During the accrediting body's previous visit, yourcenter was found to have deficiencies in its reporting, tracking, and procedures in regard to safety and wellness. Notably, the findings of the report are as follows:

• In the hallway of your center, it was found there were no outlet plug guards installed on some outlets.
• In the three-year-old room, it was found that the child safety latch on the cupboard which contains cleaning supplies was faulty and inoperative.
• In the 12-18-month room, a child with a fever of 101 degrees was not sent home within a two-hour timeframe.
• In the infant room, there was a case of hand, foot, and mouth disease, but there was no information posted for parents to review to understand the symptoms.
• In the two-year-old room, it was observed that the staff member changing diapers did not change gloves in between diaper changes.
