Scenario You manage a team at Indigo Community Services and Health Hub (Indige). This morning, Sam and Lee, 2 of your team members, made their regular weekly home visit to lay. They have been supporting Jay for more than 6 months. When they arrived, Jay seemed agitated and confused about who Sam and Lee were. 5am joked it was because of the new haircut and went inside. About 10 minutes into the visit, Jay started banging on the wall and yelling at Sam and Lee, calling them both names and telling them to stop trying to steal things from the house. Sam called the office to organise some extra support for Jay. Sam and Lee then managed to leave the home safely but were both shaken and scared by the incident. They felt anxious, guilty and ashamed, thinking they should have realised earlier that lay was experiencing a mental health crisis. When they came back to the Indigo office, Sam seemed keen to talk to someone immediately and had a chat with you, while Lee preferred to have some time alone. Sam and Lee will both need additional support from yourself and other colleagues, as well as professional counselling if necessary. The incident also posed risks to their physical and mental well-being, as well as their relationship with the client and each other. You discuss the situation with your manager, Ash, and decide to organise a debriefing session for later in the afternoon. Ash also wants to attend.
