You're an educator in a 70-place long day care centre. You are planning an excursion for 20 children aged 3-5 years, to a local Wildlife Park. Transport to the Wildlife Park will be via a coach company. The Wildlife Park is approximately 40 minutes from the Service. You will be at the Wildlife Park for a period of 4.5 hours, arriving at 10am. There are no water areas or ponds within the park accessible to children.You have four volunteers in addition to staff members who will be attending. You have three educators who will be attending the excursion, making the excursion a 1:5 ratio.

You have a number of children with additional needs, these include:

• Two children with Asthma;
• One child with a peanut allergy;
• One child with mild Cerebral Palsy who is mobile and able to walk; and
• One child with Autism.

You open the door to find a very distressed four year old child Hazel who is red in the face and crying. You speak to other staff but no-one is aware of how long she has been in the shed.
