Sean Allen 6-1-16 Shell vs. Chevron In order to obtain my samples I concluded that it would be easiest to go to individual gas stations and record the price they have listed on the sign. I decided to use Chevron and Shell because they are the only two gas stations I ever use and since I drive a lot it will be easy to check gas prices and record them. I started collecting gas prices of every Shell or Chevron that I fill up in within a 25 mile radius of my house in Woodinville. I just used a notebook and a pen to do so. I only recorded the regular 87 octane gas prices so that way I had as few confounding variables as possible. My null hypothesis is that the average gas price is the same for both Shell and Chevron based on the samples I have taken. My alternative hypothesis is that the average price of Shell gasoline is more expensive than the average price of Chevron Gasoline. I have chosen this as my alternative hypothesis because I know that shell has the best quality gasoline so I would in turn believe that the average gas price of Shell gasoline would be higher than Chevron which has lower quality gas.
