Section 1: Ethical Challenges in Global Capitalism Today

When you think of the history of capitalism and the challenges of global capitalism today:

• What information or insights surprised you the most about ethical challenges in global capitalism today?

• What do you think will be the greatest ethical challenge(s) you will face in the next 10-20 years of your career?

• What trends or ideas give you hope for the future?

Section 2: Values and Culture

In the books Ethical Leadership and Global Capitalism: A Guide to Good Practice and Defining Moments : When Managers Must Choose Between Right and Right(Author: Badaracco, Joseph)you will explore a variety of simple and complex cases that revealed a company’s values and demonstrated ethical or unethical behavior in their culture.

• Which three (3) cases or companies taught you the most about ethics, values, and organizational culture? And what did you learn from them?

Note: they could have taught you by what they did well or by what you now know to avoid.

Section 3: Defining Moments

Considering three types of defining moments that reveal, test, and shape our character. Looking back at your career and life, please share two (2) defining moments that you have experienced, whether you realized it at the time or just realize it now in hindsight.

• What type of defining moment was it?

• Who and what were involved? Which stakeholders were impacted by your choice?

• What did it reveal and how has it shaped your character?

Section 4: Personal Code of Ethics

After considering all of the modern business ethicsconcepts, think about what it means for you to be an ethical employee and manager. What does it mean to be a business leader for a better world?

Then write a one-page personal code of ethics. This is essentially a contract with yourself. It should define the type of ethical leader you want to be and the way you want to approach ethical challenges. This code should be something you can read going forward to make sure you are leading in line with your values and developing the character that will help you “gloriously conquer” the defining moments of your life.

Writing

The reflection and code of ethics should be professional and free of grammar or spelling mistakes. You should cite the sources you reference, although it does not matter what citation format you use (APA, Chicago, or just author and page #).

This paper should be 3-4 pages long, including the one-page code of ethics, and should be single-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font.
