  • Product name - every product should have a name; indicate the name of your product and explain why you have selected that name. The product name has to be 'catchy' or have some link to the actual product and/or its benefits. E.g. mango delight for mango as canned fruit in syrup.
  • Product description- what type of product is it? Canned food? Processed fruits? Why canned or processed - e.g., maybe because it's seasonal and is not always available, through canning/processing you are making it available in non-seasonal periods.
  • Raw materials/ingredientsused in producing the product - what have you used to process/make the final product e.g. ripe mangos, syrup, preservatives, water, sugar etc.
  • Positioning- what product position do you want to create in the minds of your customers in comparison to competitor products. E.g., healthier, tastier and cheaper snack. This will make sense if the competitor products are expensive, less tasty and not as healthy.
  • Uniqueness- the 'wow' factor, which is very important. Explain how your product is different/better/superior then competitor products. State the uniqueness.
  • Benefits- how does your product benefit the customer overall e.g. its healthier, can replace a full meal, costs less, will be within easy access to customers since it will be sold at all major supermarkets etc.
  • Shelf-life or expiry dates- for how long can the product be kept on shop shelves - you may be familiar with this - check the canned product you normally buy, e.g., 1-2 years from date of manufacturing or actual dates - Best before 12/12/2014. Explain what allows for longer shelf-life. E.g. the process itself and the packaging which is...
  • Packaging- what covers the product/wrapper e.g. mineral water normally comes in lightweight plastic bottles, you should also indicate weight /size of packaging if your product comes in different sizes e.g. in 500grams, 250grams etc.... and explain why it comes in different sizes.
  • Labels- written information or illustrations on the packaging itself, can be sticker labels can be tags - normally indicates ingredients, nutrient content, weight, some mention of manufacturers etc.... You may make a colorful label which should have all necessary correct information.
