Select this case: Penn v Spiers & Pond Ltd [1908] 1 KB 766.
On Friday of last week, your team received an email from the Chief-Tax Consultant of your firm requesting advice for a group of taxpayers from New South Wales (NSW hereafter). --- Hi Team, We have a new client from NSW who is interested in knowing more about their tax liability. For your team, I would like you to advise on our client's tax liability based on the law of precedence. I am unsure of the best way to present this report but would like you to use the decided case(s) to support your advice. Additionally, please include the sources and examples. Upon completion of the project, kindly forward a comprehensive report to me. The report ought to encompass an overview of the case, and if any, related cases, an evaluation of the case, the implication(s) of the case on our client's tax liability, and any other pertinent issues. I acknowledge that my methodology may have inherent flaws, and I welcome any advice or suggestions that would better it. If you identify any other issues or have a better way of helping our client make a decision on establishing their tax liability, kindly include a brief note in the report. Please ensure that all files are sent on or before September 8th. In case of any inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.
