Select two different types of media from the list below that discuss the issue or event you have chosen: Newspaper or magazine article (online or print) Broadcast news segment (you can usually find these on TV News websites) Blog article and/or Social Media Post (Twitter, Instagram, etc) Radio program and/or Podcast Film, short film, documentary, etc

Part I: Analyze your sources

For each source be sure to identify and discuss the following: What is the title of your source? Date of publication? Identify the name of the publication and give a brief description of the publication and what it covers. What type of media does this source fall into? If more than one, be sure to explain your rationale. Name of the creators or contributors? Summarize the main ideas of the story. Compare the headline to the actual story. What evidence does the journalist use to tell the story? Does the journalist go into depth? How does this expand the reader's understanding of the topic or issue? What are the sources used throughout this story? What visuals are used? Do they add to the story or detract from the story? What is your reaction or viewpoint on this news article? Go beyond superficially answering each question one by one in a way that is mechanical and boring. Provide a narrative that offers insight in a way that is interesting to read, while still addressing the requirements.

Part II: Evaluate your sources:

Now that you have provided an analysis of what exists, let's draw some conclusions. How does the coverage of your topic in both sources compare/ what is similar? What patterns or themes emerge between both types of media. In what ways does the coverage in both sources differ? What ideas are left out? What specific information emerges in one source that is not lifted up in the other source? What information is left out or remains unaddressed from the sources altogether? What rationale would you give for why certain information is or is not included? Consider the type of media each source falls into. What are the strengths and drawbacks of each media format? (For example, if one of your sources is a magazine article from The Atlantic and an interview posted on YouTube by the Jubilee network, what are the strengths and drawbacks of each format: online magazine vs. YouTube video interview)
