  1. Send an email to the Mega Marketing General Manager

You are working as an Accounts Manager for Mega Marketing, and have received the following email from the General Manager:

Dear Accounts Manager.

I have recently received a submission from a potential new client, NatureCare Products. Their Marketing Manager left recently, and they are interested in outsourcing this aspect of their business. They have, however, requested that we observe their Marketing Policy and Procedures while working with them. You will see yourself that these will not restrict the work we do for them at all. I have attached this document, and some more information about the company to this email. Take a look and let me know what you think.

If you are interested, could you please check through your accounts and your current workload and determine whether you are able to take on this account?

Regards,

General Manager

Reply to the General Manager (your assessor) with an email confirming your availability and interest.

  1. Develop an Account Management Plan

Begin your work on the account by reviewing the following NatureCare Products documents:

  • Company Information
  • Marketing Policy and Procedures

Your account management plan must include the following:

A client profile that includes:

  • A summary of the company's brand image.
  • A description of each of the client's products.
  • The most important characteristics of the client's industry, including industry trends.
  • The company's business objectives.
  • A SWOT analysis of the company and its products.
  • The company's preferred communication channels.
  • The relevant legislation, regulations and organisational policy and procedures that will have to be complied with while managing the account. This should include a summary of how contract law applies to account management.

A marketing plan that includes:

  • The overall marketing strategy.
  • Events and campaigns that would be appropriate for the client. Include timelines for each.
  • The resources that will be required for the proposed events and campaigns.
  • An itemised budget for the events and campaigns.
  • The requirements of at least two internal personnel who will be involved in the proposed events and campaigns. Assume that Mega Marketing has staff that are experienced in a wide range of marketing activities. Consider the events and campaigns you intend to implement and describe the skills that you would like two other members of your team to have. This may be internet-related and/or physical campaign-based experience and skills.
  • The requirements of at least two external specialists who will be involved in the proposed events and campaigns. Describe what your campaign strategy would require that would probably be resourced outside Mega Marketing (a medium-sized company). Although it is not possible to define what skills can be provided by internal, and by external experts, you are required to demonstrate that you understand the specialist requirements of your plan and who could provide these.
  • A description of at least six common industry account management performance indicators.
  • At least three performance indicators that are appropriate for the account.

Use the Account Management Plan Template to guide your work.

When completed, submit your plan to your assessor.

  1. Participate in a meeting with the client

This will be the client company's CEO's first formal meeting with Mega Marketing, so make sure you adopt appropriate language, conventions and protocols when communicating with them.

The objective of the meeting is to gain the client's approval of the account management plan that you have developed.

Present your plan to the client, summarising each section and explaining when questioned. If the client challenges any of your figures or conclusions, use your negotiating skills to negotiate positive outcomes.

During the meeting, you will need to demonstrate effective communication skills including:

  • Speaking clearly and concisely.
  • Using non-verbal communication to assist with understanding.
  • Asking questions to identify required information.
  • Responding to questions as required.
  1. Revise the Account Management Plan

Update the account management plan to reflect the discussion you have had with the client.

Save this version of the document as Revised Account Marketing Plan.

When completed, submit the plan to the NatureCare CEO, and request their approval.

  1. Send an email to the external specialists (your assessor)

As the first step in the campaign implementation process, you are required to contact the external specialists you identified in your account management plan.

You should outline what will be required of them and ask them for a quotation for the work.

You should describe the new account and the plan you have developed. This will be an opportunity for you to build trust and respect for the client within the marketing industry.

Keep in mind that these are external contractors, so you will adopt a different style in your emails and use language and conventions that will be different to those you used with the client company's CEO.

  1. Send an email to the internal personnel who will be working with you on the account (your assessor).

The next step in the campaign implementation process will be to create an internal team to carry out the events and campaigns that you have planned. You identified these personnel in your account management plan.

You should begin by describing the new account and the plan you have developed This will be an opportunity for you to build trust and respect for the client within Mega Marketing.

Outline what will be required of them and ask them if they have the capacity to take on the work.

Keep in mind that these are internal personnel, and in a real-life situation you would probably know them personally, so you will adopt different language and conventions than you did with the client's CEO and the external specialists.
