Examine two different official reports written by two different bodies. One should be a simple report (e.g. a report from a committee member of a club or association on a matter of concern; or a report from a supervisor to management on a particular work period), and the other should be a larger, more formal report (eg. a government or business document). You can find reports in libraries; or you may find public reports that can be accessed through government bodies. See how these reports have been structured. Consider why they were written, and who the intended readers are. Evaluate how well they achieve their intended aims. ASSIGNMENT 1. Report on your set task 1. Write a one page report including only information that you think is relevant. Make your document easy to read. 2. How will you manage the following problem? You have asked subordinates to record statistics related to their work, so that you can use them in a report to management. When the statistics are presented to you from 5 subordinates, four sets of statistics are similar to each other. One set is totally different. You suspect that one person has fabricated (ie. made up) their figures, rather than recording them accurately. You have two problems: How to deal with the suspected fabricator. . How to deal with your task of preparing a report for your superiors. (Write '/4 of a page) 3. Study a workplace process that you know how to carry out, and conduct a work study on it to determine if it can be improved, and what changes might be called for. If you cannot observe a workplace process, study another process that you are familiar with, such as cleaning the house, or studying for exams (Write '/4 of a page) 4. Write a two-three page report on your case study for question 3. First, decide on the purpose of the report (what you want to achieve with it), then what must be included, and how that information will be organised. Set out the report in a professional manner
