This led to several miscommunications with clients over what services GPS Marketers could provide to them. To address this issue, the strategy team at GPS Marketers met to develop a working mission statement for employees to help them understand what the company and each of its teams of employees did. Why is it important that employees be able to answer the question, "What do you do?" Employees need to be able to state what they do so they don't ever have to change and do new things they aren't equipped to do. Articulating what the company does and stands for helps employees understand why the company was formed and the benefits gained from providing employment. Being able to tell others what the company does allows its employees to also point out how the company could improve in its mission and offer additional services to clients. A working mission statement helps employees understand what they are trying to accomplish every day at work and defines their authority relative to others in the organization
