Explain two ways the role of an esports coach is similar to a coach of a traditional sports team. Possible College Esports Paradigms Paradigm 1: The club is completely student run with little to no institution support. This is the most common club at the college level. This is the infancy stage of starting a formalized esports program. Most people who work in this paradigm are volunteers or student workers. Paradigm 2: Institution is in the early stages of creating an esports team. In this scenario, the institution is in the early development process of creating an esports team. The esports program will receive basic levels of institutional n support but still relies on students and volunteer staff. In this scenario, the institution will have created a physical space to use but have not hired staffing resources to support these initiatives. Faculty and staff might help volunteer when they can but are not working here full time. Paradigm 3: Part-time staffing resources have been allocated to the program and students have a pipeline of communication with administrators. This institution has not gone all-in with supporting the program but is taking steps in the right direction to do so. There is now some staff to manage aspects of the program to make it more professional when before it was just run by students as a club. Paradigm 4: At least one full-time staff member has been hired, and student-managed components are organized with university-sanctioned events. This paradigm is what most schools shoot for when creating an esports program. This method creates the best chance for an esports team to excel in the long term. Growth is possible with this paradigm and more students can be included as well. Paradigm 5: The esports program receives full institutional backing complete with full staffing needs and established positions for game positional coaches. This is the best-case scenario for an esports program. There are only a handful of colleges in the country that are under this paradigm but this is also the most costly paradigm. These institutions usually receive the best players because of the support that the institution gives them
