Shrinkage & Bulking: In this exercise we are dealing with a granite site. Granite is typically very dense and with near zero air voids in its natural state. A complete S&B analysis is beyond the scope of this lab, so we will simply summarize by estimating the final condition between "Bank" & "Compacted" as a bulking of 10%. Recalculate your quantities in Problem 5 by allowing a Bulking factor of 10% between the cut & fill. Does this change your overall balance calculation? How would you correct this? (Hint: consider the roadway elevation and how the amounts of cut & fill change when you raise or lower the roadway)
