Single Subject Research Design Project: Conduct a single subject research project. Paper should be approximately 10 to 12 pages. In order to make the paper more manageable, I have broken the guidelines into four sections. Each section should be approximately three pages (but the first two will probably be a bit longer than the last 2). The paper should be typed, double space with one-inch margins, and in a standard font with APA formatting. A. Section 1-Introduction and Literature review: The first part of the paper should be an introduction to your research project. Clearly define the problem you are assessing and the purpose of your study. Next, conduct a literature review regarding the subject. Remember, however, that with single subjects design, you can use the unique characteristics of your subject to ensure the research question is unique. Ensure you address the following: I. Formulate your research question or hypothesis. II. In order to shape and refine your research problem, you will need to "review the literature." Conduct a literature review that examines what similar research has already been done in this area. Check current journals as well as current books. How will your research add to the research already done? Write up your findings from the literature in APA formats. Explain why the question and its answer is important to social work, society, and social work clients. Include evidence on the extent of the problem and monetary and social costs to society from the problem. III. Be sure to cite at least 7 academic sources (journal or books) in your literature review. B. Section 2-Methods: The second part of your proposal will explain the methods you used in your study. I. Describe the subject (the person you are studying) of your research project. II. Clearly define and assess your chosen problem (operationally define the identified variables). Explain what the independent and dependent variables are. III. Provide a detailed description related to problems and goals of the client. IV. What type of single subject design are you using? V. How will you determine baseline data (where will you get the information and how long will the baseline be?) VI. Describe the intervention. VII. Describe how follow up information will be obtained and for how long it will be collected. VIII. Write down the variables you are measuring and what level of measurement they are (nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio). IX. Are you using standardized questionnaires, intake forms, interviews, etc? X. How will you analyze your data? Consider what statistic methods, coding, and graphic reporting techniques you will use. XI. How will you ensure the research meets NASW ethical standards? C. Section 3-Finding/s: The third part of your paper reports the findings of your study. I. Was your research hypothesis confirmed? II. Implement and describe all of the methods proposed above. III. Graph the data collected from your study. IV. What does the data in the graph indicate? D. Section 4-Limitations of the project: The final section of the project will examine what your study will not be able to answer and propose questions to future researchers. I. Discuss the implications of your project for social work practice. II. Discuss the limitations of your research project. This will include limitations in design, problems with validity, reliability, instruments, generalizability, etc. III. Present recommendations for future research. E. References: Be sure to include an APA list of the references you used. I have had someone miswriting my paper so please read the instruction and ask if you have a question. Also, I was thinking my research question or hypothesis would be motivational interviewing or trueness and motivation in school based.
