Sketchbook Two Materials: Graphite pencils and your sketchbook. Goal: Draw a still-life of a pair of shoes using both contour and cross contour lines. This week's still life is of one of your shoes. It should be something with some mass and volume to it. The key is to pick a shoe with an interesting, irregular shape, large size, sags, and folds. So, please, no flip-flops or strappy sandals. You can include three or more items but remember you want an object with a lot of surface changes, folds, open tongues, and/or dangling shoe laces. To begin, in your sketchbook, draw two or three quick gesture drawings to find proportions and to explore how large to draw the shoes on the page - don't forget to search for good positive/negative shape activation. Once you have found a good composition of different shapes, sizes, and proportions, refine these shapes with more detail using contour lines and cross contour lines. (Cross Contour and Contour lines can be combined together and used in all the objects or used singularly within each object). Remember back to your first assignment about how different line weights enhanced the depth and dimensional appearance of the objects. So
