Smart Kitchen Appliances (SKA) wants to forecast the demand for Air Fryers so that the proper number of Air Fryers can be ordered from the distributor. The company trainee Jonathan has gathered the following partial data for the past four years quarterly data from the sales records. Quarter 1 Quarter 2 Quarter 3 Quarter 4 Year 2019 280 2020 2021 328 423 301 273 2022 331 445 381 304 Note: Some of the data is omitted from the above table, but it has no impact on answering the parts of this question. (a) Jonathan computed forecasts and computed the absolute value of percentage errors for the quarters of years 2019, 2020 and 2021 using a 3-quarter moving average. The sum of the absolute value of percentage error for the period is 221.07. Compute MAPE and forecast the Air Fryers' sale for next year's quarter 1, using the same technique used by Jonathan. (b) Jonathan computed forecasts and computed the absolute value of percentage errors for the quarters of years 2019, 2020 and 2021 using the exponential smoothing forecast for the time series with a smoothing constant of a = 0.60, the sum of the absolute value of percentage error for the period is 271.89. Furthermore, Jonathan computed the forecast for quarter 1 of the year 2022 as 296.31 using the same forecasting technique. Compute MAPE and forecast the Air Fryer sales for next year's quarter 1 using the same technique used by Jonathan. (c) Applying the MAPE as the measure of forecast accuracy, do you prefer the 3-quarter moving average forecast or the exponential smoothing forecast with a = 0.60? Why? (d) Complete data was given to Jonathan, and he applied regressions and generated the following three forecast equations: F = 286 + 8Qtr1+ + 134.75Qtr2+ + 27.75Qtr3+ F = 251.13 +18.46Qtr1, +141.73Qtr2 + 31.24Qtr3 + 3.49t F = 307.28 +2.51t The following variables are defined: Qtr1:= 1 if time period t corresponds to the first quarter of the year; 0 otherwise Qtr2 = 1 if time period t corresponds to the second quarter of the year; 0 otherwise Qtr3+= 1 if time period t corresponds to the third quarter of the year; 0 otherwise t = time period Ft = forecast for time period t Note: Before answering clearly label the part first and then answer. (d-i) Assuming you are interested in seasonality with the trend. What will be the Air Fryer forecast for the third quarter of the year 2024? (d-ii) Assuming you are interested in linear trend projection. What will be the Air Fryer forecast for the fourth quarter of the year 2025? (d-iii) Assuming you are interested in seasonality without trend. What will be the Air Fryer forecast for the second quarter of the next year?
