Smith sues Jones and the parties enter into mediation with Nancy Nice. during the mediation, Nancy agrees with Smith that Jones has said inappropriate things. Nancy soothes the parties, and they eventually agree to a settlement wherein no money is exchanged, and Jones agrees to apologize and not to talk about Smith again. A month later Smith discovers that Jones has been telling their friends that Smith could not possibly afford the Ford Pinto that he is driving and that Smith must have stolen it.
