Smruti Sinha bought a Mediclaim policy through Mobile App for her family from New India Assurance Co. Ltd. through State Bank of India, in March 2014 and renewed the same for the next consecutive years by paying a premium of Rs 8,579 every year. In October 2017, her husband Kamal Sinha was admitted in a hospital following pain in the chest. They immediately informed the insurance company that issued its consent letter following which he had undergone the coronary artery bypass surgery on October 19, 2017 and discharged on October 27, the same year. Despite providing all documents and requisite papers to the insurance company, the company refused to approve the claim, citing that the patient had been suffering from high blood pressure for years and this was not mentioned in the application form before buying the Mediclaim policy.
