3.1: Please describe and explain each stage in consumer buying decision process. Please use your own example of a (High involvement) product to elaborate each step.

Describe the consumer buying decision process:

Explain each stage and provide an example to elaborate each point:

Stage 1: Need Recognition - The buyer recognises a need, triggered by INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL STIMULI

For example: If I was to buy a product that is a high involvement product, It comes with high risk e.g. when buying a house or car it takes weeks even months making a decisions the consumer then recognise his needs or wants. Decides based on this. (let us say a couple is having a baby, as a consumer either guardians will want a bigger house considering they need more rooms for their children).

Stage 2: information research - the buyer seeks out information about products or services with potential to satisfy the need

For example: When a consumer is thinking about buying a product that is high value, they end up researching information on that products and looking at the different kind of products that have the same value in them. (Past experiences, attitudes towards the product.)

Stage 3: Evaluation of alternatives - the consumers processes information to arrive at brand choices

For example: If the customer involvement is high, then he or she will evaluate several brands, whereas if its low, he or she may look at only one brand.

Stage 4: purchase decision - the consumer forms a purchase intention and ultimately makes the actual phase

For example

Stage 5: Post-purchase behaviour following purchase, the consumer will engage in a variety of post-purchase behaviours- including satisfaction, formation of future purchase intentions and loyalty intentions
