Software and Process Management Lab
Please make sure that you have Internet access before beginning this lab
This week, we'll install software on our system as well as start and stop some processes in our lab. When submitting the requested screen shots, make sure that you take a complete picture of the entire Firefox frame in your host OS that shows the title of the vCloud instance. Upload only the requested screen shots in either jpg or png format. Other formats (like MS Word), or zipped files will not receive credit.
Login to your student account and open up a terminal. You'll need to become root in order to install the software package, but all other tasks may be done as a regular user.
You can download the zsh package from a mirror here:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/26648353/dir/centos_7/com/zsh-5.0.2-7.el7.x86_64.rpm.html
1. Install the zsh package using the rpm command. When finished, run the 'rpm -q zsh' command as you did in the lab. Upload a screenshot that shows the results of the command.
2. Start 3 instances of the 'top' process (this is the name of the program to run) in the background. In a second terminal, using Linux commands, determine the PID of the 3 'top' process instances. Upload a screenshot that shows the command that you used to find the 'top' processes and it's result.
3. Kill the 3 'top' processes started in the previous step from the second terminal. Upload a screen shot that shows that each process has been killed.
