Some misconceptions of 12 step meetings are that it is a cult, it is just people sitting around griping about things, nobody there is really clean/sober, they try to make you believe in God, and they make people want to go drink and use even more. What are your rebuttals to these when a client uses them as excused to not attend meetings?
NOTE: THIS IS A DISCUSSION QUESTION FOR A PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING CLASS AT GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY
The question is set up as if you were a counselor and you have referred a client to attend a 12 step program/meetings and some of his reasoning/complients for not going to the meetings are listed in the above question.
