Someone had contaminated Allround cold medicine with bleach. As a result, five customers experienced burning in their throats and severe upset stomachs upon taking Allround for relief from a cold. The incidents are confined to a metropolitan area.

Regulations require OTC drug manufacturers to use tamper-resistant packaging for their products. Allround currently meets the requirement by using an induction-sealed bottle to prevent leaking and make it evident to the consumer if the bottle was opened before purchase. In addition, the top is enclosed in a film wrapper that must be broken to remove the cap.

In the recent poisoning cases, someone had removed the cap and injected bleach into the cold medicine with a hypodermic needle, causing a small hole that was easily missed when the seal was removed. With the cap replaced, the missing shrink-wrap was not noticed by the victims. Although the company is not legally responsible for the tampering, it could cause severe damage to the brand.
