Start like Hey Rose,....
In my line of work, I see the Dunning-Krueger Effect all the time. I worked with a gentleman who thought his experience meant he was and expert. He was always redoing his work and pretty much became the laughingstock. Unfortunately, I was his inspector, so it was my job to tell him right or wrong. The problem was solved with the help of his subordinates. We would take his orders and do it the proper way as to cut down on redoing the work. Every day I feel like an imposter. There are not many people in this industry that look like me. I notice the looks. Sometimes it makes me think, do I deserve to be here, or should I be the one making these decisions like right or wrong. In the beginning I tagged along with those that I trusted and tried to learn as much as I could. I read, took courses, and asked a lot of questions. Now as the manager I lean on my guys for input. I listen to their ideas and together we make a lot of the decisions. You must show confidence in this industry, but humility can gain you just as much respect. I think that is my sweet spot. I am confident in myself and feel I have gained a lot of knowledge overtime. I am not fool enough to think I have all the answers even if sometimes it is the same question.
