The U.S. Department of Agriculture or U.S.D.A is the government agency that regulates agricultural, food, nutrition, and rural development and natural resources. The USDA actually hosts 29 agencies (U.S. Department of Agriculture 2020). They regulate many things but focus a lot of their efforts on where our food comes from and how it's handled from the very beginning of its origins in becoming food. One of the ways they work is by regulating land use as it pertains to natural resources and farmland (Natural Resources Conservation Service, 2020). Regulating land use is one way that they manage water supply, forestry, and wildlife habitat. In doing so they ensure that these natural resources aren't compromised by farm production while ensuring that there isn't a drop in food productions by farms.

the USDA and the NRCS does a good job of regulating certain things like the above-mentioned water and wildlife habitats by offering economic incentives to landowners in key areas to allow their land to return to wildlife habitats. In the area I am from, many farmers have placed their land in a government program that allows them to keep ownership of the land and essentially pays them not to farm the land. It sounds a bit ridiculous but it is actually very good for the soil to allow it to return to a natural state. The government has also taken the initiative to return some of the lands back to natural wetlands which they once were before farming took over. This has restored natural habitats for the local wildlife.
