Consider a small population of five students. Their various ages are given in the following table: Student 1 2 3 4 5 Age 18 20 27 21 26 (a) Compute the average or mean age of the five students in the population. This value is fixed for this population. For this population, there is only one value for the mean age. The value you have just computed is a parameter. (b) One possible random sample of size n = 2 is Students 1 and 2 with ages 18 and 20, re- spectively. Compute the average or mean age of the two students in this sample. Does it equal the population mean in part (a)? (c) Another possible random sample of size n = 2 consists of Students 1 and 3 with ages 18 and 27, respectively. Compute the average or mean age of the two students in this sample. Does it equal the population mean in part (a)? Was this sample mean the same as the sample mean from part (b)? (d) There are a total of 10 possible random samples of size n = 2 taken from a population with N = 5. Give the eight additional possible random samples of size n = 2 students. For each random sample, compute the sample mean age. The values of the sample mean vary from one sample to the next. There are many (possible) values for the sample mean age. The values you have computed in parts (b), (c), and (d) are statistics
