1. Statistics is said to be a science that is applied in many areas such as social sciences, medicine, accounting, economics, finance, marketing, and information systems, among others. Explain and present an example of how statistics is used in the area of social science.
2. We define population as the complete set of all individuals, things or events that we want to investigate with respect to a particular situation. We define the sample as a subset of the population. Based on the concepts of population and sample, establish a population and sample that relate to the most recent concert of a famous artist. Next, an example related to UAGM students is presented so that you are clear about what you are going to do in this exercise.

The aim of the study was to know the effects of syphilis in black men. Subjects were initially treated with small amounts of bismuth, neoarsphenamine, and mercury, although these treatments were later replaced by aspirin.
7. Identify the type of observational study (cross-sectional, retrospective or prospective) and explain the reason for your selection: A group of doctors from Kennedy Hospital in NY, plans to study emergency personnel who worked at the scene of the terrorist attacks in the city of NY on September 11, 2001. They plan to study these employees for several years from now.
8. The publishing company of Puerto Rico has commissioned you to conduct a survey of 100 student users of its Programming book. Describe the procedures for obtaining a stratified sample.
