How do you see your current skill set transferring to your future role in the immigration consulting profession or in the role you envision as an employee of a firm or agency? Share your thoughts on the application of your skill set in your discussion posting. Some attributes to consider may include:

• Multiple language abilities
• Strong communication abilities (oral and written)
• Extensive community connections
• Business management expertise
• Marketing expertise
• Volunteer work
• Prior Government interaction
• Experience in policy drafting/dissemination
• Good attention to detail
• Strong time management skills
• Customer service experience

It is up to you to determine how much information and how specific you wish to be when sharing with your classmates in your discussion posting. They key is to apply your current skill set to what you envision would be required by an immigration consultant or in the role that you intend to undertake.

Step 2: Share your weaknesses

In addition to identifying strengths, ensure that you identify areas of perceived weakness and means to overcome these weaknesses.

Step 3: Share your opportunities and threats

If you plan to start your own practice, then think about where you are likely to find the first opportunities for your business and why. Define this specifically, not just by a source country but through specific connections. For example, you may have opportunities through your religious group or through prior business connections. If it is your intent to seek employment, then consider where you may find employment opportunity and explain why.

Consider the threats that you may face in your employment then identify how you may avoid or overcome these threats. Think globally and nationally in respect to what may impact immigration to Canada. If it is your intent to seek employment you may also wish to think of where the threats may exist in relation to securing that position.
