Submarine Buoyancy Program
The goal is to use Matlab to design a submarine that can rise or sink as fast as possible.
The submarine can be made of any metal
The submarine can be any shape or size
The metal walls of the submarine must be at least 1 cm thick.
Include Drag Force when the submarine rises or sinks
The important pieces of understanding are:
Buoyancy
Filling or removing water from the submarine
Relating net force to movement
Drag Force
Your Matlab program will calculate the important values for your submarine (mass, volume, etc).
You will pick a value for how full the submarine is with water.
Your Matlab Program will then calculate the net force acting on the submarine.
From the net force, you will find the acceleration, velocity, and distance traveled in 0.1 seconds.
Recalculate the net force (with drag), and continue to find the acceleration, velocity, and distance every 0.1 seconds until the submarine reaches its maximum velocity.
Repeat for both a rising submarine and a sinking submarine.
For both a rising and sinking submarine, report
the maximum velocity (m/s)
the time to reach maximum velocity
