SUBMISSION TASK Background One company is considering heating a process stream that contains a liquid mixture of carbon tetrachloride and toluene from the temperature tkin to the temperature tkut by installing a countercurrent U-tube heat exchanger. Through this measure, it is expected to be able to save a cost of about 150 SEK/MWh compared with before. The task is to use the pay-off method to assess whether the investment can be made on the company's requirements the repayment period is three years. Also calculate the mass flow of the hot current. Data: Cp (CC14): 0.84 kJ/kg K Cp (Toluene): 1.7 kJ / kg K U-value (heat exchanger): 400 W/m2K The investment cost for the heat exchanger is given in Appendix 2 Table 1. Data for the process stream containing carbon tetrachloride and toluene (liquid) iningar ine investment cost for the near exchanger is given in Appendix 2 Table 1. Data for the process stream containing carbon tetrachloride and toluene (liquid) Mass Flow kg/s 2,5 tkin 22C cold indoor temperatures tkut 75 C cold outdoor temperatures mass % toluene 44 % P 1 bar pressure Table 2. Data for the heating current (water). t, in 115 C hot indoor temperatures ty ut 85 C hot outdoor temperatures P 3 bar pressure Estimation of investment cost The total investment cost( G) is first obtained by estimating the purchase cost (Cp)for the year 2001 with the following expression log Cp = K1+ K2 log (A) + K3 log (A) 2 there A = area of the heat exchanger, m2 K1 = 4.1884 : K2 = -0.2503 K3 = 0.1974 Cp = estimated purchase cost in USD 2001. = log Cp = K+K2log (A) + K3 log (A) 2 there A = area of the heat exchanger, m2 K1 = 4.1884 K2 = -0.2503 K3 = 0.1974 = Cp = estimated purchase cost in USD 2001. = The estimated investment cost G in Skr for 2022 is then given by the following expression G = 26Cp there Cp = estimated purchase cost in USD 2001 Results Transferred heat to heat exchanger (kW) = ? The mass flow of the hot stream (kg / s) = ? Heat exchanger area (m2) = ? Saved heating cost = ? Purchase cost of heat exchanger 2001 (USD) = ? Total investment cost (G) 2022 (Skr) = ? Repayment period. (year) = ? Conclusion
