Kenny Rogers Roasters Kenny Rogers Roasters was founded in 1991 in Florida, USA, by country singer Kenny Rogers and John Brown, Jr, a former owner of KFC. The brand gained popularity due to positive feedback on its products, and in 1996 Kenny Rogers Roasters expanded to about 300 restaurants. The company soon experienced difficulties due to the high cost of operations of the 300 branches, and in 1998 Kenny Rogers Roasters filed for bankruptcy. A year later, the brand was purchased by Nathan's Famous, an established hotdog fast-food chain. Nathan's Famous, however, soon sold Kenny Rogers Roasters to the Berjaya Group, a Malaysian company, for 4 million dollars. Kenny Rogers Roasters found success in Malaysia, and branches were established in other Asian countries, including the Philippines. At present, Kenny Rogers Roasters is considered one of the most successful fast-food chains in Asia, with more than a hundred outlets and counting. An important factor leading to the success of Kenny Rogers Roasters in Asia is its effective focus on its target markets: Asian communities and families. In general, Asian customers appreciate the American character of Kenny Rogers Roasters, as well as its affordable products.
