Getting a new hire all the accesses required and meeting the who's who of the folks they'll likely be working with should be a fairly straightforward process for employees of every level. What is considered onboarding however might take a bit longer depending on the job. Our reading this week states that "it takes 12 months for most employees to get "up to speed" in most jobs" (Patel, 2022). While that may be true for some jobs, I don't necessarily think that is the case for every job or person. Particularly if the onboarding process is virtual with the option of a more at your own pace structure. Orientation for our bright-eyed and bushy-tailed business analyst will only last a couple of days. Since it is virtual it will rely heavily on technology such as teleconferencing and Zoom meetings. An initial phone call with an immediate supervisor will ensure they have a run down of when to expect these calls.
