Design, implement and assess play-based learning experiences and environments to support holistic child development across early years programs 4. Apply responsive and inclusive teaching strategies to enhance children's play and learning, considering both indoor and outdoor and natural environments in order to meet the diverse needs of children Purpose of the Assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to design your ideal outdoor play space for young children (mixed ages) that nurtures their sense of wonder and curiosity; a place that offers a rich variety of play opportunities; a place where children can use all of their senses, make connections, explore the natural world including with their families and experience something new every day. You will create a story map of your space using the principles outlined in class and include a narrative that provides a rationale for your design. To design a Story Map, you can draw on a piece of paper (scan it and include it in the submission) or create it electronically. If you use photos from other sources, they must be cited and referenced according to the APA format. ? In one zone, you can include 1 or 2 elements. For example, in your first natural/forested zone, you can include elements that promote sensory play and connection with nature. In the other natural/forested zone, you can include elements that promote gardens and seasonal materials. It is ok/possible for you to include a play experience more than once in a zone. ? All the areas must to be presented in one story map as this is supposed to be your own outdoor play environment. When designing your play environment, please consider and reflect the Play Space Designations figure on the page 180 from Dietze & Kashin (2019). These play zones are not limited to promoting the play experiences that are listed above, but for this assignment, you can just focus on these play experiences. ? Label each zone with its name and label the materials you included in each zone and the play experiences by adding a legend to your map. Also, label the play experiences/elements that each zone promotes. Step 2: Write a narrative that describes 1) the overall pedagogy of your Story Map and 2) rationale (philosophy) for what you included in each zone to promote the play experiences listed above (use intext citations and references from Dietze & Kashin, 2019: Chapter 4 & Chapter 5).
