Suppose a shortage of gasoline developed in Canada due to supply chain issues arising during the current pandemic. In the interest of "fairness" the Canadian government decides to allocate equal quantities of gasoline to each driver (some countries in Europe are doing this already). Would this allocation be economically efficient? What difference would it make if the government allowed or forbade people to trade its rations?
