Suppose that a recent survey conducted in the US, about 1/4 of all college students randomly selected (from all 50 states) admitted to have stolen a product (i.e., merchandise) from a mall that year. You are skeptical about this study, so you decide to test this, so you randomly sample 16 students from Hunter College and requested them to respond to a confidential survey in which you asked them whether they stole a product from a mall that school year.
