Suppose that I am conducting a study to estimate the average number of credits taken by all University of Mary students during the Spring 2020 semester. To work towards determining this, I group students by major, and select Math, Biology, and Physics to question, since they are in the same building I teach in. I ask every student majoring in Math, Biology, and Physics how many credits they took this past semester and record their responses. Use this information for the questions below:
Is this sample representative of the population of interest? Why or why not?
Is this an observational study or a designed experiment? If it is observational, what type?
What sampling method is being utilized in this question?
The variable of interest in this question is number of credits taken. Is this information Qualitative? Quantitative/Discrete? Quantitative/Continuous? Explain why you chose the answer you did?
