Suppose you are an avid reader who always buys hardcover books. You have been considering purchasing an e-book reader for some time now, but you are not sure which one, if any to buy. You would like to make a good financial decision based on how many books you read and the relative price of buying hardcover copies versus electronic copies of the books. Create a presentation explaining how many books you would need to read to justify the purchase of an e-book reader. In other words, when is it worth it: How many books does it take before buying e-books (with the e-reader) becomes cheaper than buying hardcover books?

(2) Write an exponential model to represent the decrease in value of your e-reader. Show how you created the model (i.e. explain what each part of the model is being used to represent).

V=139.99(1-0.20) ^n

V= value of e-reader

139.99 = initial cost of e-reader

-= decrease

0.20=percent of decrease

n= number of years after purchase

(3) Using your exponential model, approximately how long before your e-reader will need to be replaced? Assume your e-reader will need to be replaced when it is worth approximately 10% of its original value. Explain your calculations and interpret your answer.

10% of original value V =139.99*(1-0.20) ^n

139.99/14= 139.99*(0.80) ^n/139.99

0.10= (0.80) ^n

n= log 0.10/log 0.80

n= 10.3189 a little over 10 years then our e-reader need to be replaced

10% of 139.99

0.10(139.99) =13.999

About 14.00

(4) Consider your answers to all four parts of this activity. Type a paragraph that answers the main question. Use the Writing Principle with complete sentences. Remember that the reader should be able to read your paragraph without knowing what the main question is and be able to understand what you are trying to answer. Include enough information to support your answer, including your sources. Type your paragraph below.
