Dynamo Industries has plants throughoutthe United States.The firm needs to hire a new plant manager for its Pittsburgh plant. Although Dynamo Industrieshas experienced slightly above average growth and profit compared to its competitors, thePittsburgh plant has been a trouble spot. Over the past three years, production costs there havebeen extremely high and labor-management relations have been strained (e.g., numerous workslow-downs, an excessive number of grievances filed, etc.). The most recent Pittsburgh plantmanager was terminated, although by mutual agreement, the company stated he left for a betterjob with another company.Because of the importance of the plant manager position, Dynamo Industries would like to createa new staffing plan for the position to ensure they get the best candidate. The Pittsburgh plantwill serve as a pilot of the new staffing plan for the plant manager position, but if the newstaffing plan is shown to be successful, the plan will be implemented across all plant locations.For this reason, it will be important to establish a good method for evaluating the effectiveness ofthe staffing plan.In the past, Dynamo has favored promotion from within the company to fill the plant managerposition. However, given its trouble with the most recent plant manager in Pittsburg, the firmwishes to now focus on hiring external candidates, at least for now. Thus, the new staffing planshould be focused on the selection process that external candidates will go through and how afinal candidate will be determined.Dynamo has already conducted a new job analysis for the position of plant manager. Thefindings of this job analysis can be found in Appendix A. Appendix B provides information onthe current selection process for external candidates for the plant manager position. Finally,please note that recruiting is currently very passive. In other words, the job is simply posted onthe companys website.
